The New Orleans Connection

Since its establishment more than 300 years ago, New Orleans has acquired many nicknames, including the “Gateway to the Americas,” as this historic city and home to ��ż�� once thrived as the largest port in the Southern United States with extensive trade routes through Latin American and the Caribbean.

Those centuries-old ties along with the massive influx of Latin American workers following Hurricane Katrina changed the landscape of this region and are reflected today in its large Latino population.
