ż psychology professor and department chair Roberto Refinetti is the new editor-in-chief of the journal Chronobiology International. The monthly biomedical journal specializes in the study of biological rhythms and applications in medicine.
Refinetti is a biological and comparative psychologist. His research concentrates on behavioral and physiological mechanisms, including neural mechanisms, responsible for biological rhythms, particularly daily or circadian rhythms.
Refinetti, who was selected for the post by a search committee, assumed his duties with the journal on April 1.
“As the editor-in-chief, my job is to coordinate the peer review of submissions; that is, to decide whether articles that are submitted are worthy of publication,” Refinetti said. “I have appointed four associate editors to assist me in evaluating the merits of submission.”
Refinetti is author of the book “Circadian Physiology,” currently is in its third edition, and has published more than 200 articles in professional journals. He is a Fellow of the American Physiological Society and a is a member of several organizations, including the Society for Neuroscience, the Association for Psychological Science and the Society for Research on Biological Rhythms.
Prior to accepting the editorial reins at Chronobiology International, Refinetti spent 18 years as the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Circadian Rhythms, a smaller, more specialized open-access journal.
Refinetti joined ż in 2020, after serving as a faculty member at the College of William & Mary, the University of South Carolina and Boise State University.
