PROGRAM INFORMATION
Privateer Pathways is a Íæż½ã½ã program that gives students the help they need to make the best of their collegiate career. Through tutoring, group study sessions, and support classes, Privateer Pathways guides students through each semester at Íæż½ã½ã, helping them succeed academically and socially.

WHAT IS PRIVATEER PATHWAYS?
- Privateer Pathways is a program for first-year students. It is designed to assist students who have been admitted to the university under conditional admission because of their ACT or SAT scores and need additional support in Mathematics or English.
- Admission to the Íæż½ã½ã is contingent upon participation in this program.
- Allows students to develop skills at Íæż½ã½ã: the delivery of academic support to students while they are learning course content in college level courses so they can graduate on time.

WHAT DOES THE PATHWAYS PROGRAM CONSIST OF?
Pathways students are provided with:
- Built in academic support through co-requisite support courses in Math or English
- Built in social support through Learning Communities
- Highly personalized advising and coaching
- An opportunity to get on campus early through Pathways Camp
- Additional special opportunities in leadership, involvement on campus, and other programs
WHAT IS A PATHWAYS SUPPORT COURSE?
The Pathways Support Course is a Co-Requisite, meaning you receive support while you are taking the course you need for your degree. As a result, you will do better in the class. Depending on your needs, you are enrolled in a Pathways Support Course for Math or English (not both). These courses allow for more one-on-one time with your instructor as well as time to work with peers. Class sizes are small, so you get individualized attention. WHAT IS A LEARNING COMMUNITY?
Most first-year students, regardless of their past academic success, are unprepared to deal with the rigor of college life, particularly during their first semester. A Learning Community is made up of a group of students who share academic goals and attitudes. They are grouped together in cohorts to support each other through the first year of college. HOW DOES A LEARNING COMMUNITY BENEFIT ME?
Nationally, students who actively participate in Learning Communities during their first year tend to:
- - Perform better academically
- - Form friendships and study groups earlier than their peers
- - Connect with faculty
- - Transition more easily into college
- - Know more about the resources on campus
- - Find an immediate sense of belonging on campus
HOW DOES A LEARNING COMMUNITY WORK?
In your first semester at Íæż½ã½ã, you’ll be placed in Learning Communities with students who have similar interests and needs. This means that in your core classes you’ll have a built in support team!
Around 20 students are enrolled together in the same core courses:
- English 1157
- Math
- Pathways Support (either for English or Math, based on your needs)
- University Success
**You cannot change these core courses unless you have AP or dual enrollment credit. During New Student Orientation, you will meet with an adviser and finalize your schedule.
CAN I TEST OUT OF PRIVATEER PATHWAYS?
Yes! You can attempt to test out of the Privateer Pathways program. You can take the Accuplacer (a test specifically for English and/or Math) on Zoom or in person and attempt to test out of English or Math. The Accuplacer can be taken as many times as you need to take it. Please email accuplacer@uno.edu letting them know which test you want to test out of. An admissions person will email you back letting you know what is needed to be able to take the test. In order to test out of English Pathways, you must earn an 86 or higher on the Sentence Skills Accuplacer; to test out of Math Pathways, you must earn a 65 or higher on the Elementary Algebra Accuplacer. Your Accuplacer test score in Math or English will replace your original ACT/SAT Math or English scores. WHAT HAPPENS IF I TEST OUT?
If you test out of the Pathways program, you will be taken out of the program completely. All you would have to do is bring your new test scores to the Pathways Academic Adviser, Monique Legendre. She will then take you out of the Pathways courses and Learning Community. You will then be required to add a new section of your Math or English course, as well as a new section of your University Success course. MORE INFORMATION

Pathways Camp
PATHWAYS CAMP
Get a head start getting comfortable at Íæż½ã½ã….sign up for Pathways Camp! WHAT IS PATHWAYS CAMP?
Pathways Camp is voluntary. Students who participate in Pathways Camp will spend one week during the summer jumpstarting their Íæż½ã½ã experience. The Camp provides students with the following: A chance to experience what the campus has to offer, get an idea as to where you classes will be and to eat at the University food court. Enrichment for Math and English so students can begin to develop strategies for success in these courses and have an opportunity to meet faculty in a comfortable environment. School and Life skills from experienced professionals to better integrate students into the university experience. WHAT HAPPENS DURING PATHWAYS CAMP?
Pathways Camp consists of programs, activities and services that work together - and with you - to put you on the path to college success: -Individualized study skills and learning-style assessments -Academic skills workshops including time management, memory and concentration, how to read a textbook, and how to talk to your professor -Peer Mentoring -Leadership development -Introduction to key faculty and staff -Individualized guidance and support from Financial Aid, First Year Advising, and more -Social and networking events -Residential Living-Learning Community WHEN IS PATHWAYS CAMP?

Yes! Since you are a Íæż½ã½ã student, you will have access to use the Rec Center, which has table games, swimming pools, and a variety of cardio machines and weights.
